Indicative Total Remuneration: $65.04 p/hr (plus 25% casual loading) - Casual (up to 6 Feb 2022)

The Emergency Department Consultant is responsible for managing the care of all patients allocated to them in the Emergency Department in collaboration with the responsible Resident Medical Officers, Registrars, fellow Consultants, Nurses and Allied Health professionals. You will be required to be involved in Continuous Quality Improvement activities, continuing education activities and Patient Safety and Clinical Risk Management activities.
The Northern Adelaide Local Health Network (NALHN) includes the Lyell McEwin Hospital (LMH), Modbury Hospital (MH) and other Mental Health and Sub-Acute services. The huge variety of patients seen in both the hospital's emergency departments provides for an excellent clinical and training experience. An excellent part of working within LMH is the ability to work in its Paediatric Emergency area. The LMH sees 74,000 presentations per year of which 15,000 are paediatric presentations. LMH ED is also going through a $58 million expansion due to be completed in 2022, including state of the art resuscitation rooms and a new paediatric emergency area. While Modbury is a smaller Emergency Department they are too linked to a hospital that offers world class Rehabilitation, Palliative Care and Aged Care Medicine. Modbury Hospital is also going through a re-development which includes a recently completed Emergency Extended Care Unit, and the future will include additional beds in Emergency, expansion of the surgical floor and establishment of an High Dependency Unit set to cost $96 million dollars.
It is essential that you hold a Bachelor of Medicine; Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or equivalent, and be registered with the Medical Board of Australia as a Medical Practitioner. With clinical experience in Emergency Medicine setting, you will have skills in problem solving and decision making at both the clinical and the individual level. Your ability to liaise with people from diverse cultures and backgrounds will reflect excellent communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills. You will have a strong commitment to quality management philosophy and devolved responsibility, along with sound knowledge of Quality Improvement and Human Resource Management principles and procedures. In addition, you will have current knowledge of Emergency Medicine including skill requirements, procedures, equipment and the clinical implementation of Emergency equipment.
